The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially signed Tim Tebow, reuniting the former Heisman Trophy winner with head coach Urban Meyer for an NFL return years in the making.

Tebow, 33, worked out for the Jaguars in April at tight end. After impressing the coaching staff, he started drawing serious consideration for a deal before training camp. Now, just a week after the first reports of a signing, Tebow has officially signed with the Jaguars.

The former quarterback last played an NFL snap in the 2015 preseason with the Philadelphia Eagles. Before that, he appeared in preseason action with the New England Patriots in 2012. Tebow’s last snap in a regular-season game came in 2012, when the New York Jets used him in the Wildcat and moved him out from behind the line of scrimmage.

Tebow will be attempting to make the Jaguars’ roster at one of the team’s thinnest positions. While there is plenty of debate about his chances of making the transition, especially so long after he last played an NFL snap, his ties to Meyer and the fan support in Jacksonville make it possible.
