Three trade targets for the Chargers after J.C. Jackson's injury

The Los Angeles Chargers could look to acquire a cornerback before the NFL trade deadline after J.C. Jackson went down for the rest of the season.

Jackson--who signed a five-year, $82.5 million deal in the offseason--ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee during the Chargers Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The 26-year-old wasn’t having a good season before the injury. He tallied just two pass deflections and no interceptions in five games before collapsing in the end zone during the second quarter, but he still added a veteran presence to the Chargers pass defense.

Los Angeles needs to explore options at cornerback before the trade deadline on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. ET. While the New York Jets CB Bryce Hall and the Vikings Kris Boyd are options, the Chargers could play it stingy and trade for a corner who seems ready to move on.

Washington Commanders cornerback William Jackson III was benched during Week 5 and hasn’t played in a game since. Jackson III, who turns 30 on Oct. 27, put up double-digit pass defenses in three of his four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals before joining Washington prior to last season.

Initial reports came out of D.C. that Jackson III asked to be traded after he was benched though he later denied such claims.

With Jackson III simply languishing on the Commanders bench, the Chargers could pick him up at a discounted price, something general manager Tom Telesco might demand out of any trade.

Telesco hasn’t made a trade at the deadline for a player in his 10 years as the Chargers general manager, according to Sports Illustrated. However, making a splash at the deadline can distinguish Super Bowl champions from playoff teams with potential.

The Los Angeles Rams pulled the trigger on the Von Miller trade last season and won a championship. If the Chargers want a chance at bringing home their first Lombardi trophy, they need to add to their secondary.
