Three-time Super Bowl champion crushes Jets QB Zach Wilson

Add three-time Super Bowl champion and current NFL analyst Mark Schlereth to the list of noteworthy individuals crushing Jets quarterback Zach Wilson ahead of New York's home game versus the 2-1 Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.

"...You might fool me for a minute because you put a drive together, but it’s only a matter of time before you take a s--- in your helmet," Schlereth said about Wilson during the latest edition of the "Stinkin' Truth" podcast, per Ryan Gilbert of Audacy. "And that’s who Zach Wilson has been to this point. That dude will turn more two-yard sacks into 12-yard minus plays than probably anybody I’ve ever watched."

Wilson went 7-of-10 on his pass attempts during what became a fourth-quarter touchdown drive in this past Sunday's 15-10 home loss to the New England Patriots but has mostly failed to impress since Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1. According to ESPN stats, the 24-year-old will begin Week 4 of the season ranked dead last among qualified quarterbacks with a 57.0 passer rating and a 52.4% completion percentage.

Former Jets quarterbacks Boomer Esiason and Joe Namath generated headlines when both said on Monday they've seen "enough" of Wilson playing over even unproven backup Tim Boyle, who has attempted only 106 career regular-season passes. Wilson said Thursday that he and other Jets offensive players are doing "everything we can to prove (Namath) wrong" as the recently signed Trevor Siemian learns the playbook while on the practice squad.

"They just signed Trevor Siemian, who is a journeyman backup quarterback in this league," Schlereth continued. "But here he is a journeyman backup quarterback that gives you a 10-times better chance to win than Zach Wilson does. The second overall pick from just several years ago. Zach Wilson is a bust. Zach Wilson needs to be out of New York. He is an absolute bust at this point."

If the Jets fall to 1-3 this weekend, head coach Robert Saleh may have no other choice but to start either Boyle or Siemian over Wilson at the Denver Broncos on Oct. 8. The 0-3 Broncos play at the 0-3 Chicago Bears this Sunday.
