The Colts have hired a former NFL QB

The Indianapolis Colts have hired a coaching position they haven't had since 2020.

On Tuesday night, ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler broke the news that the Colts are hiring former Eagles QB coach Alex Tanney.

The Athletic's Colts reporter, James Boyd, shared that Tanney is joining the Colts as their pass game coordinator.

Alex Tanney's History in the NFL

Tanney began his NFL coaching career in 2021 with the Philadelphia Eagles as an offensive assistant, and he has quickly climbed up the coaching ranks. In 2022, he was promoted to assistant quarterback coach, and in 2023, he became the team's quarterback coach.

Tanney's first two seasons with the Eagles were with Colts head coach Shane Steichen as his offensive coordinator from 2021 to 2022. He now rejoins Steichen in Indianapolis as the team's pass game coordinator, a position the Colts haven't had on staff since 2020.

His coaching career isn't his first stint in the NFL. Tanney spent time on the active roster with the Tennessee Titans (2015) and the New York Giants (2019) and appeared on the practice squad with six other NFL teams, including the Colts in 2015. Tanney retired from the NFL in 2021 and began his coaching career with the Eagles that same year.
