The Houston Texans’ surprising season is still going on after they defeated the Cleveland Browns, 45-14, in the AFC Wild Card round. The Texans are set to face the top-seed Baltimore Ravens on the road in a huge test.

The Texans recently placed wide receiver Noah Brown on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury, and that’s a tough blow for the young team. Now, they have signed veteran Damiere Byrd to the practice squad, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

‘With Noah Brown going on Injured Reserve with a shoulder issue, the #Texans signed veteran WR Damiere Byrd to the practice squad.’

Byrd has bounced around the NFL quite a bit, playing for five different teams before signing with the Texans. He was most recently with the Atlanta Falcons and played just one game in 2023 after playing in 14 games in the 2022 season. His best year came with the New England Patriots, where he set career highs with 47 catches for 604 yards in the 2020 season.

The Texans wide receiver room has suffered some big blows as of late with rookie Tank Dell suffering a season-ending injury prior to the playoffs and now Brown out for the rest of the season.

In a corresponding move, the Texans released defensive back Rashard Lawrence. It remains to be seen whether or not the Texans plan on moving Byrd to the active roster ahead of the game.

The Texans face the Ravens on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, and the winner earns a trip to the AFC Championship Game.
