Tampa Bay Buccaneers Add Veteran Cornerback to 2024 Roster
USA TODAY Sports

Most of the important moves the Tampa Bay Buccaneers needed to make heading into the 2024 free agency period and offseason have already been handled, and they have since turned their attention to smaller details in rounding out their roster prior to April's upcoming NFL Draft.

One of the position groups that Tampa Bay is looking to modify and improve upon this offseason is the secondary. They brought back Super Bowl-winning safety Jordan Whitehead, traded Carlton Davis III, and brought in former Jets' CB Bryce Hall. With these moves, the Buccaneers will likely have Winfield Jr. and Whitehead to nail down the two starting safety roles, while at the CB position, it becomes a bit more cloudy outside of Jamel Dean.

CB Zyon McCollum has improved his play since entering the league out of Sam Houston State and figures to be first in line to prove he should be starting opposite of Dean, however, Hall's arrival should push him for that spot and at least add depth.

Another important portion of the secondary is that nickel corner role that was occupied by Christian Izien last season. Izien played the role fairly well, but it appears the Bucs will look to push him even further as they have signed former Texans CB Tavierre Thomas to a one-year deal.

Thomas started five games for the Texans last season while appearing in nine games total in which he collected 51 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. Over the course of his six-year career, split between Cleveland and Houston, Thomas has compiled 22 starts, two interceptions, and six forced fumbles.

Thomas will come in and provide versatility that can see him play both inside and outside, with the likely outcome being able to push Izien for his starting spot in the slot. Having multiple players at depth for 2024 will be huge as we have seen the Bucs' secondary struggle with injury issues over the past couple of seasons.
