The Detroit Lions secured a win over the Carolina Panthers in their preseason finale.
Friday's game was a showcase for players on the roster bubble, as many starters and significant rookies were held out of the contest. The result was an exciting showcase for players who may be auditioning for teams beyond the Lions.
In particular, the talent at wide receiver and defensive back was on full display. This created what should be a difficult next few days for the Lions' front-office brass, as it begins to whittle down its roster to 53 players.
"In some regards, it makes it clear and other regards, it makes it very cloudy. That's a good problem to have. Man, it was good to see," Dan Campbell said, after Detroit's win over Carolina. "Everything we had talked about with the DBs and the receivers. ... I thought those guys played their hearts out, really stepped up, made plays for us. And then the receiver position, what was most encouraging was those contested catches we weren't coming down with or defenders around, we're getting these drops. This week, we made plays."
Campbell mentioned Steven Gilmore, Khalil Dorsey, Chase Lucas, Dylan Drummond and Antoine Green as key players in Friday's win.
Gilmore, in particular, had a pick-six and two pass breakups.
