Steelers named landing spot for top remaining free agent

The Steelers have had an offseason to remember under new general manager Omar Khan, but Pro Football Focus doesn't think they're done quite yet.

PFF predicts Pittsburgh to land veteran LB Kyle Van Noy, the ninth-best remaining free agent on its board.

The move would make a lot of sense as the Steelers are thin behind linebackers T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. Pittsburgh did add LB Nick Herbig with its fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he is unproven with his first snap in the league still to come.

The Steelers have already added a dozen new players before the draft. So, what does adding another cheap veteran hurt?

Van Noy would provide some much-needed depth to the position as well as championship-caliber leadership. He won two Super Bowls (LI and LIII) with the Patriots.

The 32-year-old has 470 tackles, 33.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and three interceptions since entering the league in 2014. The 10-year veteran has also been very reliable, not missing a game in 2022 and not missing more than 13 games since the 2016 season.

The fit certainly feels right on paper but now it is up to Pittsburgh to decide whether it wants Van Noy to join the roster for 2023.
