The Steelers were hoping for another jump in play by LB Alex Highsmith, and it looks like they are getting one. The former 2020 third-round pick leads the NFL in sacks ( 4.5) through three weeks.
One of the few bright spots for the Steelers this season has been Alex Highsmith’s development.

Leads the league in sacks, tied for fourth in QB hits, and tied for second in TFL.
As a rookie, Highsmith had two sacks. Last season, he had six. In 2022, he averages 1.5 sacks per game and is on pace for his first double-digit sack season.
The Steelers need stellar play from Highsmith in the absence of linebacker T.J. Watt, who may not return until Week 8 because of a pectoral injury suffered in Week 1 against Cincinnati. Highsmith had three sacks in the opener.
The Steelers (1-2) are favored Sunday against the Jets, who have allowed the seventh-most sacks (nine), per StatMuse.com. Pittsburgh must take advantage of a battered Jets offensive line that has already lost tackles Mekhi Becton for the season and Duane Brown (injured reserve) to injuries.
Free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and defensive tackle Cameron Heyward have earned praise in Watt's absence. But Highsmith merits plaudits for his play, too.
