So Much For Ex-Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels And His $100 Million Dollar Offense

While most of Raider Nation was celebrating the hiring of Antonio Pierce by Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis, there were some interesting tidbits that dropped. We’re referring to Davante Adams and why he believes the offense under former coach Josh McDaniels didn’t work.

While speaking on the “Two G’s In A Pod” show, he shared his opinion on what went wrong last season, just as the organization was preparing to announce their decision on Pierce.

“We couldn’t be consistent enough on offense to be a playoff-level team. We definitely had the pieces. In my opinion, I think it’s going to be a whole new year next year. The system itself made it hard enough for us to succeed. You need a Tom Brady or an Aaron Rodgers to go in there and have your quarterback hit on every cylinder that consistently. That offense is just a nickel-and-dime offense.”

Looking back, it’s baffling to see what the Raiders trotted out onto the field when considering how much capital was spent on the offense.

Something to note from Adams’ words is his belief that the offense will be entirely different next season. As of this publication, the Raiders have relieved Bo Hardegree, the interim offensive coordinator, of his duties. The belief is that the Raiders will have almost an entirely new offensive coaching staff. Hopefully, they’ll retain wide receiver’s coach Edgar Bennett—he’s been invaluable to the team; just look at this body of work thus far.

The quarterback position certainly stifled Josh McDaniels. Still, that was his (and Dave Ziegler’s) doing. Jimmy Garoppolo, Brian Hoyer, and Aidan O’Connell were his hand-picked signal-callers. As for Pierce, he’s linked to Jayden Daniels, mostly because of their time together in college. However, drafting him will require some moves, as he’ll likely garner top-five status.

To say that the $100 million-dollar offense was a colossal failure might be an understatement. Without Tom Brady, McDaniels’ vision was doomed from the start.
