Should Raiders' Getsy's Pass-Game History be Alarming?
Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports

For the Las Vegas Raiders to make it back to the playoffs next season, they must turn the corner on the passing game.

That depends on many factors, especially who the Raiders will start at quarterback next season. Of course, it will also depend on the production of their new offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, who had some underwhelming passing offenses in his two years as offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.

In his first season with Chicago (2022-23), the Bears finished last in the league in passing offense with just 130.5 yards per game. This past season, his unit finished 27th in the NFL in passing offense with 182.1 yards per game.

Getsy's offense was very productive in the run game; however, finishing second this past season and first the season prior is promising for a Raiders offense that ended the 2023 season 30th in the league in rushing.

But Las Vegas wants to reinstall its downfield aggressiveness.

New Las Vegas Raiders Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy led a Chicago Bears offense that finished last in the league in passing in 2022-23 and 27th in 2023-24.

"Hey, we're all about winning here, right?" Getsy said in his introductory press conference over Zoom last Friday. "Whatever it takes to win. And whether that's some weeks you got to run it more and some weeks you got to throw it more, whatever it takes. I think it's all about playing into the players that you have and trying to get them to do the things that they do really well.

"And so whatever that looks like, we'll find out here this fall, but we'll take this offseason to go ahead and figure out exactly what that is."

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
