Seahawks' Pete Carroll: 'I don't see us making a trade' for a quarterback

The Seattle Seahawks currently have Geno Smith, Drew Lock and Jacob Eason set to compete to fill the void at quarterback left by the trade of Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.

While there are at least a couple of veteran starters believed to be available on the trade market, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says the team is happy with its current options, even if he's not willing to completely rule out the possibility of a trade.

"I don't see us making a trade for anybody at all; I don't see that happening," Carroll said on "The Ian Furness Show" when asked about possibly adding a quarterback. "We're certainly going to continue to be open to chances to improve our club and meanwhile we're just going to be battling and competing our tails off. There's always a possibility, so we'll keep ourselves open to that."

The most notable option for the Seahawks would be a trade to acquire former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield from the Cleveland Browns. Mayfield requested a trade earlier in the offseason when the Browns began pursuing Deshaun Watson, whom they eventually acquired from the Houston Texans in a blockbuster deal. While Seattle has been considered a logical landing spot for Mayfield, the team has reportedly been less than enthused about the idea.

Carroll raved about the team's current options at quarterback, including Lock, who was acquired from Denver in the deal involving Wilson. In three seasons with the Broncos, Lock threw 25 touchdown passes with 20 interceptions and had an 8-13 record as a starter. Carroll said Thursday that the 2019 second-round pick would've been the top quarterback selected in the 2022 NFL Draft if Lock had been among this year's prospects.
