Seahawks Add To NFL History With Last-Second Win

Jason Myers was the Seattle Seahawks' hero on Sunday, as his 43-yard field goal lifted the team to a 29-26 win over the Washington Commanders.

"I try to keep it all the same," Myers said after the game. "You know you learn through different kicks, different situations, how to prioritize that more and more. But that's the nature of being a kicker in the NFL. You are going to be in those situations. I love those situations, so it's been fun."

In doing so, Myers earned his place in a dubious piece of NFL history. As it turns out, the Seahawks were far from the only team to win on a last-second field goal. They were actually one of five teams to do so, which broke an NFL record for the most in one day. According to ESPN, the previous record was three games in one day, which has happened on multiple occasions.

The other four games to end on game-winning field goals were as follows:

Dustin Hopkins kicked a 40-yard field goal to lift the Cleveland Browns to a 33-31 comeback victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

Matt Amendola kicked a 38-yarder to help the Houston Texans upset the Cincinnati Bengals 30-27.

Matt Prater hit a 23-yarder to help the Arizona Cardinals beat the Atlanta Falcons 25-23.

Riley Patterson made it from 41 yards away to help the Detroit Lions escape the Los Angeles Chargers 41-38.

Cleveland and Arizona were trailing their opponents before kicking those field goals, while Seattle, Houston and Detroit were all tied beforehand.

Contributing to such a dubious record was just the cherry on top of a terrific Sunday (pun intended). The 32-year-old made all seven of his kicks on the day, hitting on five field goals and two extra points.

"His mentality is just unwavering," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of Myers. "As long as he's strong, he makes me strong. I've got all the commitment in the world to back him up. I think I said something a long time ago about that. He's the real deal, and he's a great kicker, and shoot, he showed you again today."

It was a great day for kickers in the NFL, and an even better day for the Seattle faithful.
