Sauce Gardner on Mac Jones shove: 'He tried to stop me from having kids'

Add New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner to the growing list of NFL players to accuse New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones of being a dirty player.

Gardner stated after the game that the reason he shoved Jones in the second half of Sunday’s 15-10 loss was because the third-year signal caller hit him below the belt as he tried to get back to his feet following a QB sneak.

“He got my stomach hurting a little bit,” Gardner told reporters. “I do got to ice up; he’s trying to stop me from having kids in the future.”

Though Jones denied any wrongdoing when asked about the incident by reporters after the game, Gardner had a different recollection of events, suggesting the hit was intentional.

The 23-year-old cornerback and reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year elaborated on how the event actually went down, stating it’s the first time in his career he ever took a cheap shot to the groin.

“He had got tackled, he reached his hand up to try to like, get me to help him up, and I just like, moved his hand out of the way,” Gardner recalled. “Then he got up, and he just came up to me like, 'Good job.' And while he said that, he hit me in my private parts. I didn't react how I really wanted to but, that was just the reaction that came after that. I definitely wasn't expecting that. There's a first time for everything, I guess.”

This isn’t the first time Jones has either been accused of or penalized for a dirty play. He was fined twice last December – $11,138 for diving at the legs of cornerback Eli Apple and $10,609 for tossing a ball into the midsection of Bills lineman A.J. Espenesa – and he was accused of intentionally kicking Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker in the groin following a QB sneak a few weeks before that.

Jones also took some heat during his rookie year for grabbing and twisting the ankle of Carolina Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns after Burns forced a strip sack.
