Saints make smart move with key player

The New Orleans Saints continue to chip away at their salary cap deficit. Their latest move is one for an emerging player on the defensive side of the football.

According to Tom Pelissero, the Saints restructured the contract of edge rusher Carl Granderson. The move cleared $7.2 million in 2024 salary cap space.

Granderson is one of multiple defensive pieces to have their contracts changed so far. Marshon Lattimore agreed to a restructure shortly after the season ended for New Orleans. Don't be surprised to see Demario Davis and Tyrann Mathieu restructure their deals with the Saints, too.

As of now, the Saints now hold a deficit of just under $30 million in cap space. With a few more impactful restructures, they will get to cap compliancy. If they choose the aggressive route, they can create a sizable amount of cap space to sign free agents.

Regardless, this won't be the last move by the Saints to clear money in order to get out of their hole.
