Saints fan favorite compares Spencer Rattler to a former MVP

Hype. Suspense. Excitement. All of those terms describe drafting a rookie quarterback - no matter the round. Spencer Rattler may have been taken by the New Orleans Saints on day three of the 2024 NFL Draft, but fans are ready to see his skills during training camp and the preseason.

Tyrann Mathieu compared Saints rookie QB Spencer Rattler to Aaron Rodgers.

It's quite the comparison for the rookie. Rodgers is a future Hall of Fame QB. He's won NFL MVP four times and Super Bowl MVP once. Only Peyton Manning has more league MVP awards.

“I spent the early part of my career in Arizona. He was like the Aaron Rodgers of high school football… the kid could always spin the rock.”

Rattler's unique athleticism in the pocket and impressive off-balance throws definitely do look like some Rodgers highlights at times. He's mobile, but he often only uses it to push the ball downfield, instead of running downfield.

Rattler has a long way to go from a processing standpoint to get anywhere near the level of a Rodgers-type QB.

That's a no-brainer, but Mathieu's assertions are still worth noting. He knows NFL QBs quite well as a veteran and former Pro Bowler in the league.

That being said, his physical traits and dynamic play-making ability are what made him a highly-recruited prospect coming out of high school. College football showed more of his blemishes but also uncovered some gem-like pieces to his game that most QBs taken in round five do not possess.

We will see if Rattler is a long-term piece to the pie in New Orleans over the next handful of seasons.
