Roquan Smith shares first reaction to Ravens naming Zach Orr as new defensive coordinator
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens did not take long in finding a replacement for Mike Macdonald. A day after the Seattle Seahawks named Macdonald as their next head coach, the Ravens promoted Zach Orr as their new defensive coordinator.

Orr has not severed as a defensive coordinator in the NFL before. He spent the past two seasons working as Baltimore’s inside linebackers coach.

Orr has helped to get the best out of multiple inside linebackers on the team, including Roquan Smith, who is looking forward to seeing the defensive-minded coach anchor Baltimore’s defense.

"I’m excited for ‘ZO,'" Smith said at the 2024 Pro Bowl Games. "Coming from a player, game being taken away from him, just adversity he’s faced. Just his mindset throughout the week, day in and day out. Helped me and ‘PQ’ throughout the week and the defense in general.

"I think he’s going to be great and excited to hear him calling calls in the mic, it’s going to be interesting. Different voice, but it will be pretty sweet."

The Ravens will formally introduce Orr as their new defensive coordinator this week.
