Report: Jon Gruden Suddenly An Option For Head Coaching Job
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Former head coach Jon Gruden has not been a coach in football since it was revealed he was fired by the Las Vegas Raiders for making racist, homophobic, and misogynistic comments. Gruden, a former Super Bowl champion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has now been involved in a rumor that is linking him to a possible head coaching job in football.

Jon Gruden Rumors

Gruden has been labeled as a “big wild card” to be the next head coach for the Indiana Hoosiers. Indiana just fired their head coach Tom Allen on Sunday. Allen served eight seasons as the Hoosiers head coach and was able to have some success in Indiana. However, he was let go after failed efforts by the team to play in the NIL game, and now potential suitors have been circling in several rumors.

A comeback to coaching for Gruden is unlikely, but it is an intriguing thought, to say the least. Gruden has won 117 total games in the NFL and coached the Buccaneers and the Raiders during his time in the league. he was fired by Las Vegas after it was revealed in an investigation done by the league that he sent emails using racist, misogynistic, and homophobic language.

Ties To Indiana

The storied head coach does have support from a few key people that are high up at the school according to “The Athletic,” though, which could put him in a good position to become the next head coach if he desired. He reportedly visits the school often and has multiple connections to the University.

Gurden’s father, Jim, used to be a coach for Indiana back in the 1970s under Lee Corso. Given all of the history between Gruden and the school, the former NFL head coach does have some interest in the job opening. The only thing stopping him from becoming Indiana’s next head coach is the controversy following him, and whether the school would be willing to make this type of move
