Report: Jets 'very interested' in signing one-time Pro Bowl LB Kwon Alexander, DT Larry Ogunjobi

The New York Jets are reportedly eyeing a pair of players to add to their defense who have combined for over 700 career tackles and 30 sacks.

This isn't the first time this spring that Alexander's name has been connected to the Jets. The 2017 Pro Bowler visited with the squad in mid-April. Alexander played in 13 regular-season and three postseason games with the San Francisco 49ers during the 2019 campaign and part of the 2020 season, when current Jets head coach Robert Saleh was San Fran's defensive coordinator.

The 27-year-old was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft and spent the first four years of his career with the Bucs. Alexander started and played in all 16 games for Tampa Bay in 2016, racking up career highs in combined tackles (145), solo tackles (NFL-high 108), tackles for loss (12) and quarterback hits (seven), while recording seven passes defended, three sacks and one interception (a pick-six) as well.

During his Pro Bowl season in 2017, the former LSU Tiger posted 97 combined tackles, four passes defended and a career-high three interceptions across 12 contests. Alexander was limited to six games played in 2018 after suffering a torn ACL in Week 7 and played in only eight regular-season games during his first year with the Niners in 2019 due to a torn pectoral.

He was traded from San Francisco to the New Orleans Saints in November 2020. In 12 games a season ago, Alexander registered 50 combined tackles and a career-high 3.5 sacks.

Ogunjobi was chosen by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft; spent four seasons with the team; and produced 180 tackles, 37 quarterback hits and 14.5 sacks across 60 regular-season games. The 27-year-old tackle signed a one-year, $6.2 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals in March 2021 and finished last season with career highs in quarterback hits (16), tackles for loss (12) and sacks (7.0) in 16 games played.
