The Kansas City Chiefs' wide receiver room is experiencing a shakeup this week, and the team is also giving some attention to the tight end position as the 2023 regular season slowly comes to a close. The stakes with the latter group are much lower, though.

Per a report from Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2  in Houston, Kansas City is hosting tight ends Izaiah Gathings and E.J. Jenkins for workouts on Tuesday.

Gathings is a name that many in Chiefs circles may be familiar with, and for good reason. The undrafted rookie from Middle Tennessee State spent the first part of his offseason with the New York Jets organization after a productive rookie minicamp tryout. He then came over to Kansas City in late July, although he didn't break camp with the team and was ultimately waived prior to the start of the season. In two collegiate seasons with the Blue Raiders, he hauled in 84 passes for 861 yards and three touchdowns.

Jenkins, who was listed as and played wide receiver for Georgia Tech, also played at South Carolina in college. Throughout the 2021 and 2022 campaigns, he recorded 25 receptions for 433 yards and four touchdowns. The 6-foot-6, 245-pounder is now playing tight end and also has spent some time with the Jets this year. Jenkins signed to the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad before Week 9 but was waived not too long thereafter.

The Chiefs, of course, currently have a set-in-stone rotation in their tight end room. The trio of Travis Kelce, Noah Gray and Blake Bell remains intact entering Week 16, but it never hurts to get looks at potential depth pieces at any point in the year. While it's unlikely that anything progresses beyond a practice squad signing for Gathings or Jenkins — if they even make it that far — Wilson's report indicates that they're still making efforts to remain in the mix for teams down the stretch this season.
