Ravens GM Eric DeCosta Shoots Down 49ers Deebo Samuel Trade Rumor
© Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

A Baltimore radio station reported on Thursday morning that the Ravens had reached out to the San Francisco 49ers regarding a possible trade for wideout Deebo Samuel. It would appear that was not true.

Ravens' general manager Eric DeCosta addressed it later in the day and compared it to a child's story.

“That specific report -- I read The Lorax last week at a local elementary school. I would probably put that report similar to that,” DeCosta said.

The report was that San Francisco denied the trade request "at least for now." But DeCosta indicated there was no answer to the trade request because it never happened.

That's not to say the Ravens couldn't use the five-year veteran and former South Carolina Gamecock.

In five seasons with the 49ers, Samuel has posted 283 catches on 429 targets for 4,122 yards and 19 touchdowns over 66 career games. He's also carried the ball 160 times for another 1,007 yards and 19 more touchdowns.

The Ravens will enter 2024 with Zay Flowers entering his second year and Nelson Agholor under contract again. Rashod Bateman looks to have an added role after the release of Odell Beckham Jr.
