Rams turning to former longtime clutch Packers kicker amid playoff push

Veteran kicker Brett Maher was signed to the Rams practice squad at the end of August, just one day after he was released by the Denver Broncos. Maher was elevated to the active roster ahead of Week 1 and played the first seven games of the season in Los Angeles before being released in late October.

Head coach Sean McVay and company then turned to 24-year-old Lucas Havrisik, signing him off the Cleveland Browns practice squad the same day that Maher was let go.

Both Maher and Havrisik were inconsistent for the Rams, going a combined 24-for-33 on field goals this season, good for just a 72.7% success rate. The older kicker went 17-for-23 in his seven contests (including 3-for-7 from at least 50 yards away) and the youngster was 7-for-10 (3-for-6 from beyond 40 yards). For reference, Los Angeles has seen their opponents convert on 25 of their 31 field goal attempts this season (80.6%).

Crosby brings playoff and Super Bowl experience to the Los Angeles kicking game, as well as a history of clutch kicks in the "Frozen Tundra." Crosby and the Rams play at home in sunny southern California twice in their final five games and also have a road game in San Francisco against the 49ers, but also have a pair of cold-weather road games coming up on the docket, including in Week 14 against the Baltimore Ravens.

After being selected by the Packers in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft, the Colorado product spent 16 seasons with Green Bay, winning eight NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors over the years and helping the team win Super Bowl XLV in 2011. Crosby made all four of his extra point attempts and his only field goal try in the victory.

He's gone 395-for-485 (81.4%) on field goal attempts across 258 regular season games, while making 733 of his 753 (97.3%) point after kicks as well. Crosby has been even better in the postseason, going 31-for-35 (88.6%) on field goals and a perfect 70-for-70 on extra points in 23 playoff games.
