Rams exec echoes Tyreek Hill's question about decorated Chiefs coordinator

Miami Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill posted on social media on Monday, wondering why Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo wasn't being considered for head-coaching jobs.

Los Angeles Rams Chief Operating Officer Kevin Demoff echoed Hill's message on Tuesday, saying that "Spags" has been deserving of another lead gig for some time now.

A graduate of Springfield College, Spagnuolo coached at the collegiate level for 15 seasons between 1981-1998, also spending one season in the NFL with Washington as a player personnel intern and two seasons abroad with NFL Europe.

He held various titles with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999-2006 and was the New York Giants defensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008, helping Big Blue stun the New England Patriots in XLII.

Spagnuolo's only head-coaching job came with the then-St. Louis Rams from 2009-2011, going just 10-38 in three seasons. He was then the New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator for one season and worked with the Baltimore Ravens defense in 2013 and 2014 before re-joining the Giants as their defensive coordinator (and briefly interim head coach) from 2015-17.

New York had the second-ranked defense (17.8 points per game allowed) under Spagnuolo during the 2016 campaign.

After taking 2018 off, Spagnuolo took over as the Chiefs defensive coordinator in 2019 and has turned the team into one of the best units in football. Kansas City has ranked as a top-10 defense in four of the Spagnuolo's five years, including the 2023 campaign when they finished second in points per game allowed (17.3).

With the Chiefs' recent victory against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, Spagnuolo became the first coordinator in league history with four championships.
