Raiders Under Contract: WR DJ Turner

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver DJ Turner is a player who has been on and off the team's practice squad over the last two seasons.

Turner has primarily served as a special teams asset. He saw just 21 defensive snaps in nine games in 2022 and 12 in 10 games this past season. He rushed for 26 yards in his first season and also added a total of 78 yards on just four kick returns.

Most of those stats came in Turner's solid performance in the Raiders' win over the Houston Texans in Week 7 of the 2022 season. He rushed for 20 yards, including an 18-yard run on Las Vegas' game-tying scoring drive before halftime. He also returned three kicks for 56 yards.

The Raiders signed Turner as an undrafted free agent in 2021 before he spent the entirety of that season on the practice squad.

Turner has been a positive contributor on special teams for Las Vegas. This past season, he totaled 10 combined tackles and even forced and recovered a fumble in the Raiders' 63-21 conquering of the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15.

The 27-year-old wideout has one year remaining on his two-year, $1.8-million contract, meaning next season will be critical for his chance at a significant raise. He will first have to make the roster, though, and for that to happen, Turner will have to prove he has much more to offer than merely a special teams weapon.
