Raiders RB Josh Jacobs to miss Jets game with ankle injury

The Las Vegas Raiders will be without their starting running back for Sunday's showdown with the winless New York Jets.

Las Vegas confirmed on Friday that Josh Jacobs is out for Sunday's game due to the ankle injury that he suffered in last weekend's 43-6 thrashing at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons.

Jacobs rushed for 27 yards on seven carries and also caught three passes for 17 yards versus Atlanta before he lost a fumble and then grabbed his ankle. There was some optimism that he'd be able to face the Jets after examinations led the team to believe the problem initially looked worse than it was by Monday. Those hopes were soon dashed, however, when Jacobs sat back-to-back practices out during the week.

Per ESPN stats, Jacobs begins the weekend fifth in the NFL with 782 rushing yards.

Devontae Booker, second on the Raiders with 326 rushing yards, 59 carries and three rushing scores, is next in line on the depth chart and could be in for a big afternoon against a Jets team that can't end this season soon enough.

Additionally, the Raiders ruled safety Johnathan Abram out with a knee injury.
