Raiders owner Mark Davis on Jon Gruden: NFL has 'all the answers'

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the NFL learned during its investigation of the Washington Football Team that now former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden used a racist trope regarding NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith in an email sent a decade ago. Despite that, Gruden worked this past Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears but later resigned on Monday night after the New York Times confirmed he used racist, homophobic and misogynistic language in additional emails sent from 2010 through 2018.

Per Paul Gutierrez of ESPN, Raiders owner Mark Davis offered a handful of words about the subject but, in doing so, left more questions than answers about exactly what occurred.

"I have no comment," Davis told ESPN on Wednesday. "Ask the NFL. They have all the answers."

As both Gutierrez and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk explained, Davis' statement suggests he's annoyed at the NFL about the fact Gruden was seemingly singled out in the reports even though roughly 650,000 emails were recovered during the investigation. As for the Raiders, assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia is serving as the team's interim head coach.

On Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed they're removing Gruden from their Ring of Honor. Gruden guided the Bucs to their Super Bowl XXXVII victory and was inducted into the franchise's Ring of Honor in 2017.
