Players surprised by tie in Lions-Steelers game

Sure, it isn't often that an NFL game ends in a tie. When it does, though, it always seems to throw players for a loop.

Such was the case in Week 10 when the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions were knotted up 16-16 at the end of overtime play, and Steelers rookie Najee Harris admitted he didn't know such a thing was possible.

"I didn't even know you could tie in the NFL," Harris admitted, via ESPN.

The 23-year-old running back was readying himself on the sidelines for the Steelers' next drive as the Lions failed to get the ball into the endzone, not realizing until time stopped that he wouldn't be playing another drive at all.

"In my mind, I was sitting on the bench saying, 'I've got another quarter to go,'" Harris said. "But someone came to me and said, 'That's it.' I've never had a tie in my life before."

Turns out, Lions running back Godwin Igwebuike was in the same boat.

"I'm back there like, 'Yo, how many overtimes can we do?'" Igwebuike said, adding his teammates didn't seem to know the answer to that either.

The result of the Lions-Steelers matchup is the first tie in the 2021 NFL season and the 27th since the NFL established overtime play in 1974. According to NFL.com, there has been at least one tie game every season since 2018 and the Lions and Steelers have both had games end in a tie during that span.
