The Pittsburgh Steelers are searching for the team’s first outside hire at offensive coordinator since 2012 and according to Peter King, Kliff Kingsbury might be that outside hire. The reporter revealed on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh on Tuesday that Kingsbury is “going to talk to” the Steelers, having already interviewed with the Chicago Bears.

Kingsbury spent the 2023 season on staff with USC, working with QB Caleb Williams. He was the head coach for the Arizona Cardinals and was the head coach at Texas Tech before that.

“Right now, he’s talked to the Bears and he’s gonna talk to the Steelers–interesting places,” King said. “The Bears are a running team. The Steelers are a running team. I’ll tell you this, if he gets one of these jobs, I guarantee you that that team will be a running team.”

Although Kingsbury has reportedly interviewed with the Bears, Chicago is close to finalizing a deal with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron to take over the offense under Matt Eberflus.

Known for his work with some elite quarterbacks, King says it’s a shock when you learn Kingsbury isn’t always looking to pass. That would be music to the ears of players like Najee Harris in Pittsburgh.

“The interesting thing, I always tell people this about Kliff Kingsbury. You expect you’re meeting with a guy who wants to throw the ball 55 times a game,” King said. “First meeting I ever had with him after he got the Cardinals job in training camp, he started talking about what a great running team we’re going to be.”

Steelers request to interview Rams assistant Zac Robinson

Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Zac Robinson received an interview request with the Steelers on Monday. He interviewed for several offensive coordinator jobs last season as well before ultimately staying in L.A.

A former quarterback at Oklahoma State and in the NFL, Robinson has spent the past five seasons with the Rams. He began as an assistant quarterbacks coach in 2019 and went on to work with receivers as well before becoming passing game coordinator.

The Rams won a Super Bowl in Robinson’s third year with the team, finishing third in the NFL with 8.1 yards per pass attempt. Robinson worked with both Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp that season, the latter of which led the NFL in all receiving categories with 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns.

This year, Robinson coordinated the passing game that resulted in rookie Puka Nacua breaking the league’s rookie receiving record.
