Packers' third-round pick Jayden Reed receives flattering comparison

The Green Bay Packers once again opted against selecting an offensive playmaker in the first round of a draft. Despite zero wide receivers and tight ends being selected when they came on the clock at No. 13, the Packers opted to go in a different direction.

With their first-round pick, Green Bay selected Iowa defensive end Lukas Van Ness. After that, however, they committed to finding some weapons to put around new starting quarterback Jordan Love.

On Day 2, the Packers kicked things off by selecting tight end Luke Musgrave out of Oregon State in the second round. Later on in the round, they made a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to acquire the No. 50 pick and used that on wide receiver Jayden Reed out of Michigan State.

Reed was a favorite of many in the draft community and brings an added element to the Packers offense alongside Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs. His after-the-catch ability is excellent as well, which makes him such a dangerous player on special teams as a return man.

While Reed didn’t test through the roof athletically, he is a savvy route runner with great speed. That is partly what makes his pro player comp so fitting. According to CBS scouting reports, the pro player comp for Reed is Buffalo Bills star wide receiver, Stefon Diggs.

If Reed gets anywhere close to the level that Diggs has achieved in his career, Love and the Packers are set on offense for years to come. Diggs has turned into one of the premier pass catchers in the NFL. He has recorded 100+ receptions in four of the last five seasons and broken the 1,000-yard plateau in five straight.

Diggs, like Reed, is on the smaller side as both are listed at 6 feet even, with Diggs having a slight weight advantage at 191 compared to 185 for Reed. Both players get the job done with attention to detail more than relying on athleticism, which makes them dangerous as they have the speed to beat a defense when needed.

Reed is a great fit for the Packers that can win at every level. With Watson and Doubs providing plenty of size at wide receiver, Reed can slide right into the lineup as the tactician of the group, opening things up for them to take advantage down the field.
