Packers tease unleashing offensive standout again

Limited throughout the season by a hamstring injury, running back Aaron Jones hasn't been too involved in the Green Bay Packers offense. However, after several teases, the team appears ready to unleash arguably their best offensive weapon.

Speaking with reporters Friday ahead of the Packers Week 9 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Matt LaFleur hinted that Jones could be in for a heavy workload.

"He had a good week, great attitude — ready to cut him loose," LaFleur said via Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers.

LaFleur's words should be a promising sign for the Packers and their fans. However, after weeks of uncertainty, it might be hard to believe Jones will suddenly be more involved in the Packers offense on Sunday.

After Jones was inactive for Week 2 and 3, LaFleur said he was "cautiously optimistic" that Jones would return for Week 4. Jones was in the lineup for a 34-20 loss against the Detroit Lions but only carried the ball five times for 18 yards while catching one of two targets for -1 yard in the passing game.

Jones was again inactive for Week 5 and played sparingly in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos, recording 35 yards off eight carries with three catches for 22 yards in a 19-17 loss.

After Jones remained noticeably absent from the Packers offense, despite being active, LaFleur stated ahead of Week 7 that Jones wasn't "100 percent by any stretch." Which begs the question, why was Jones given no injury designation if he wasn't 100 percent? Furthermore, why was he receiving reps?

The lack of transparency alone from the Packers' side is enough to raise doubt over Jones' usage in Week 9. Sure, the Packers may be engaging in a bit of gamesmanship, trying to keep their opponents guessing. Hamstring injuries can be tricky to predict, as well. However, after crying wolf several times, Packers fans will believe Jones is truly back when they see it with their own eyes.
