Packers’ Rookie RB Reminded Them Of This Familiar Star
Jason Parkhurst-USA TODAY Sports

In the wake of a promising season that saw the Green Bay Packers inch closer to Super Bowl contention, the franchise is making moves to solidify their roster. With rising star Jordan Love demonstrating his ability to be a legitimate long-term franchise quarterback, the Packers are shaping up to be formidable contenders in the NFC.

Last season, Love showcased his potential to lead the Packers to big playoff wins, beating the Dallas Cowboys and nearly knocking off the San Francisco 49ers, instilling confidence in his ability to lead the team’s offense effectively.

The front office responded by fortifying the team’s receiving corps, adding dynamic playmakers like Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed to provide Love with potent pass-catching options.

In a surprising move, the Packers opted to part ways with former Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones, who joined the division rival Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal. To fill the void left by Jones’ departure, Green Bay secured the services of Josh Jacobs in free agency, securing the talented rusher with a lucrative four-year, $48 million contract.

Despite the acquisition of Jacobs, the Packers didn’t stop looking for running back help, further strengthening their backfield by drafting MarShawn Lloyd out of USC in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Lloyd, touted as a versatile back with shades of Aaron Jones in his skill set, represents a promising addition to the Packers’ offensive arsenal.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the Packers already see some comparison between Lloyd and Jones.

“Not only with his rushing ability but his ability to catch passes out of the backfield. So, the expectation is they’re going to get him acclimated pretty early, try to use him a lot.”

Although Jacobs is poised to assume the role of lead back, the Packers’ desire to rotate in two running backs suggests that Lloyd will have opportunities to make an impact in his rookie season.

With his adeptness as both a runner and a pass catcher, Lloyd adds depth and versatility to the Packers’ running game, providing Love with another weapon to utilize.

The Packers’ moves in the offseason underscore their commitment to building a well-rounded roster capable of contending at the highest levels of the NFC. With Jordan Love at the helm and a potent mix of talent at the skill positions, Green Bay appears primed to make a serious run in 2024.

As they embark on this journey, the Packers and their fans alike are eager to see how this revamped roster will fare against the rest of the NFL.
