Packers reportedly have 'quiet confidence' that Jordan Love can play at a high level

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is not in an enviable position. Not only is he replacing Aaron Rodgers, a four-time MVP and guaranteed first-ballot Hall of Famer, but he's also replacing the guy who replaced Brett Favre, a three-time MVP and certified NFL Hall of Famer in his own right.

Being the guy to replace the guy is tough enough. But being the guy to replace the guy who replaced the guy? It seems almost statistically impossible that Green Bay will be able to continue its 30-year run of Hall of Fame quarterback play with Love at the helm of the offense.

Don't tell that to Love's teammates, though. They've been gassing him up all offseason ever since the Packers traded Rodgers to the New York Jets. It's obvious that some of the more vocal members of a new-look Green Bay locker room are supporting their guy, but ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter recently reported that all around the organization, there's a quiet confidence in Love's ability to play.

"Love has made steady progress backing up Aaron Rodgers; watching him, observing, learning. I think there's a real quiet confidence about the level of success that he's going to have this year," Schefter reported.

"Think about where they took him. Think about the glimpses of talent he did show in the spot duty when he was called upon to replace Aaron Rodgers those couple of times when Aaron Rodgers didn't play. And I think the players have extreme confidence in Jordan Love right now," Shefter continued. "I don't want to say he's going to be the next Hall of Fame quarterback, but I think that they have some real belief that he's going to play at a high level and keep this team competitive."

The thing is, the Pack doesn't need Love to be a Hall of Famer in order to complete in 2023. There's a core of young and exciting talent around him like Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs mixed together with experienced veterans in the likes of running back Aaron Jones and All-Pro lineman David Bakhtiari.

Now consider all the resources Green Bay has put into its defense.

All Love needs to do is keep the train on the tracks for the Packers on offense. If he can provide more than that, though—and it sounds like he will—there's a realistic world in which Green Bay remains a contender in the NFC for years to come.
