Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said he '100 percent' considered retirement this offseason

As the 2021 NFL season begins, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers continues to be open about his tumultuous offseason. 

In an interview with Erin Andrews of Fox Sports, Rodgers admitted that he did consider playing elsewhere this season or retiring altogether. 

"I did," Rodgers said about the possibility of a pre-draft trade, according to Pro Football Talk. "Because they wouldn't commit to me past 2021. So I figured if they want to make a change even though I just won MVP, why wait? They drafted my replacement, so let him play if that's what you want. But I also could picture myself not playing, so it was a lot of things."

On the possibility of retiring, Rodgers said he "100%" considered it. 

"I don't feel like I have anything left to prove on the field," Rodgers said. "I think it's more about the enjoyment and the happiness and the quality of life that this game has afforded me over the years. And being able to 100 percent commit to everything that my job entails and there were many times during the offseason where I felt like I wasn't able to fully do that. And until I was, it was a possibility."

Rodgers expressed his unhappiness with the culture around the Packers earlier in the offseason, specifically referencing a rift between himself and the front office. 

However, he renegotiated his deal to play in 2021, and the Packers traded for his longtime favorite target in Randall Cobb to make him happy. Despite the franchise's moves to keep the reigning MVP comfortable, there's still no guarantee he remains in Green Bay beyond 2021. 

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Broncos are interested in trading for Rodgers, and that the Packers and Rodgers have agreed to explore trade possibilities after the 2021 season. So, at this point, it certainly seems like the veteran is all but gone.
