Packers president indicates Jordan Love is starting QB over Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay Packers president and chief executive officer Mark Murphy has once again indicated 2020 first-round draft pick Jordan Love will be the team's starting quarterback and that Aaron Rodgers will eventually join the New York Jets. 

"Well, I'm really glad that Aaron Rodgers turned out to be such a good quarterback and I'm hopeful that Jordan Love turns out to be a similar quarterback," Murphy said before he boarded a bus for a "Tailgate Tour" of Wisconsin to promote the Packers, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Murphy made it known last month that Rodgers would only remain with the Packers through the start of the 2023 season "if things don’t work out the way that we would want them." 

After the future Hall of Famer said during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he intends to play for the Jets later this year, Murphy interestingly declared he was "sworn to secrecy not to say anything" about what seems to be an inevitable trade. 

The Packers and Jets allegedly remain apart regarding compensation for Rodgers. Green Bay understandably wants multiple noteworthy assets for the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player, while New York is reportedly looking for draft-pick protection in the event that the signal-caller who turns 40 years old in December decides to retire next winter. 

Murphy added on Tuesday that he has "been actively involved" in discussions that have also featured Jets general manager Joe Douglas and Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. Murphy also insisted "there's really nothing more to say" and that he anticipates "saying that there is no update" during the tour until a trade is finalized and announced. 

Multiple individuals have supposedly debunked a theory claiming the San Francisco 49ers could swoop in and take Rodgers before he lands with the Jets, and Douglas confidently said at an event this past Friday night that Rodgers is "gonna be here." However, Rich Cimini of ESPN later tweeted that "nothing has changed" as it pertains to trade talks. 

It's thought a transaction may not occur until shortly before the second round of the NFL Draft gets underway on April 28.
