OL lashes out at Sean Payton following Jets, Nathaniel Hackett criticism

Billy Turner lashed out at Sean Payton on social media Thursday afternoon, hours after the Denver Broncos head coach's heavy criticism of the New York Jets and their new offensive coordinator became public.

In the profane message, the Jets offensive lineman wrote "Seems like someone Started training Camp and is trying to soften the blow after realizing what he's in for this season. F***ing Bum. #BountyGate #childish"

Payton is entering his first year as the Broncos head coach and went nuclear in his evaluation of his predecessor's (New York offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett's) job performance last season.

During the interview with USA Today's Jarrett Bell, Payton said that Hackett's effort during the 2022 campaign "might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL."

After entering the year with high expectations, both Hackett and new franchise quarterback Russell Wilson faltered. Denver finished in last place in the AFC West at 5-12 and the coach was fired following the team's Week 16 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day.

Payton was officially hired as the new man in the Mile High City in early February.

Turner spent two-plus seasons with the Broncos from 2016-18 and had a second go-around with the club in 2022. In between his two stints, Turner played under Hackett (during a previous offensive coordinator gig) and alongside quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a host of other former Green Bay Packers from 2019-21.

The 31-year-old North Dakota State product signed with the Jets in early May.

Payton also called out the Jets as an organization during his interview with USA Today, saying that Gang Green was going to fail in a similar fashion to Denver's 2022 disaster.

"We're not doing any of that. The Jets did that this year. You watch. 'Hard Knocks,' all of it. I can see it coming," the former New Orleans Saints coach said.

New York's third-year head coach Robert Saleh also responded to Payton's words on Thursday.

In what is quickly becoming one of the more highly anticipated regular season matchups, the Broncos will host the Jets in Week 5 on Oct. 8.
