Nick Bosa Sizes Up the Chiefs Offense
USA TODAY Sports

SANTA CLARA -- Nick Bosa is the most direct, plainspoken player on the 49ers. So when you ask him to size up an opponent, he'll do it.

Here's what Bosa said on Thursday about the Chiefs' revamped offense.

Q: What makes the Chiefs rushing attack tough to stop?

BOSA: "Their running back runs really hard, and then all the other threats that Patrick Mahomes creates opens everything up because you're not expecting as much of a run-heavy game. They have a really good O-line and I think Isiah Pacheco has revamped their run game."

Q: What's the key to defending Patrick Mahomes?

BOSA: "Keeping him in the pocket the best you can is one of the big things because he loves to improvise and do all that stuff. And then full-on effort. Kyle Shanahan called it "defensive line stamina" as the key to the game."

Q: What's the hardest part about dealing with Andy Reid's offense?

BOSA: "He's a great game planner. I'm sure he's going to have some wrinkles for us. Hopefully we can anticipate some of them and make plays when we need to."

Q: What stands out about Chiefs offensive tackles Jawaan Taylor and Donovan Smith when you watch them on film?

BOSA: "They hold a lot."

Q: You played them last year. Did you watch that game again? They scored 44 points on your defense.

BOSA: "Definitely some things I need to be ready for because they definitely were game planning be a little bit in that game. There are some things I need to be ready for Andy Reid to do. And just as a defense, we were playing good ball, it's just about playing four quarters."

Q: What was Andy Reid doing to game plan for you?

BOSA: "Some of the cuts and some of the chips and stuff that I could be ready for."

BONUS: Here's what Kyle Shanahan said on Thursday about the Chiefs offense.

Q: What makes the Chiefs’ run game tough to stop?

SHANAHAN: “They’ve got a good runner. He runs hard. He is always the same. He is one of the more consistent players in this league. Every single run, first run to the last run, to whenever you turn on the clip, cold weather, on the road, at home. He runs extremely hard. He’s our type of runner that we like. I’d say that’s the best thing. They’ve got some good blockers. They’ve got a scheme they mix up. When you’re real scary in the pass game too, that always helps the run game.”
