NFL Survivor Pool: Four wins in a row have things rolling

Now we are truly at the halfway point of the season, and we are on a roll with four wins in a row. Minnesota won with relative ease last week, pushing their home record to 4-0.

Last week was a week where a lot of the favorites came through, which is what you want as much as possible in a Survivor Pool format. When you get to backing underdogs you know you are scraping the bottom of the barrel a little.

This week we are getting a group of sixteams that are on their bye weeks — Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, New York (Giants), Pittsburgh, and San Francisco. None of those teams have been used before so the field of available teams is definitely slimmer this week.

I am sure there is a winner in there somewhere.

Survivor Pool Teams Used So Far:  Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders, and Minnesota Vikings.

Record: 4-4

Week 9 Survivor Pool Recommendation

The top teams in the league are all in action this week. Philadelphia, Buffalo, and Kansas City are all in action and all favored by double-digits. Any of them would be a good bet but the real question at this point is how long do you want to push the envelope and not choose one of those teams.? I think we can go at least one more week before using them to really finish strong in the second half.

The Pick: Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are taking on the Bears this week. They are the road team but they are favored by 5. Chicago has shown some improvement over the course of the year, but they are definitely back into the fade category. The trades they made this week were clearly of the give-up variety, trading away their best defensive player and their most accomplished one in LB Roquan Smith and DE Robert Quinn respectively. That is not going to help the team fight for wins.

Miami was active with trades too but they are adding with the hopes of making the playoffs in the AFC. The Dolphins added LB Bradley Chubb and RB Jeff Wilson. Both fill needs and can be expected to produce for Miami down the stretch. Also, with Tua back, the Dolphins are comfortable making a push. They are not going to close the gap with the Bills this season but they are improved for sure.

The second half of the season is going to be tougher for the Dolphins. They have a number of road games and another date with Buffalo. Now is the time to roll with the Phish.
