NFL futures, 2 Buffalo Bills bets: Is the window still open for Bills?

Buffalo has been one of the NFL's best teams for three years now. Can the Bills ever get over the hump, or has their championship window passed them by?

Bills high-level odds

  • Wins: Over 10.5 (-150) | Under 10.5 (+130)
  • To Win Division: +120
  • To Win Conference: +500
  • To Win Super Bowl: +900

Buffalo went 13-3 last season, falling to the Bengals in the Divisional Round. It's the second straight year the Bills have fallen in the Divisional Round and the fourth straight season they've reached the postseason.

Winners of three AFC East titles, the division figures to be a tougher path this year with Aaron Rodgers in New York and Miami on the upswing. Still, the Bills are the favorites to win the division again, and are the third overall favorites to win the Super Bowl in 2024.

Josh Allen is the engine that makes this team run, sporting both elite vertical passing and playmaking with his legs. Allen is once again one of the MVP favorites, and a demonstrably strong season from Buffalo in this gauntlet of a conference could be enough to put him over the edge to win his first such honor.

Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis form a strong WR-tandem, and Dawson Knox and rookie Dalton Kincaid form an intriguing 1-2 punch from the TE position. James Cook and Damien Harris are the two top backs, and it remains to be seen who takes control of this group with Devin Singletary elsewhere in 2023.

Buffalo has quietly had one of the best defenses in the league the past few seasons, led by an elite secondary. In 2022, the Bills allowed the fourth-fewest points per game, and 2021 saw them lead the league with the fewest points allowed.

The Bills should once again be among the AFC's elite, but the value starts to fade a bit, especially with a heavily juiced win total and nearly even-money to win their division. Know this: I'm a believer of the Bills. I just don't want to venture a future bet on their team success, I'd rather take some fliers on specific players.

Two futures bets to make on the Buffalo Bills

Damien Harris to lead NFL in rushing TDs (+5000 DK)

Found under "League Leaders — Rush TDs"
The running back rotation in Buffalo remains to be seen, but you may have missed that the team signed Damien Harris away from New England. Just two seasons ago, Harris rushed for 15 touchdowns, third-best in the NFL.

James Cook is hardly a proven commodity, and while the hope is he takes a second-year leap, there's no certainty that happens. Harris is a bruising runner who meshes nicely with the passing game Buffalo brings to the table.

The Bills averaged nearly a rushing touchdown per game last season, good for 11th in the league, and in 2021 their 1.2 rushing touchdowns per game was sixth-highest in the league.

Josh Allen has a lot to do with that, rushing for at least six touchdowns in each of his first five seasons. I've seen some passing rumors and reports this offseason that Buffalo plans to tone down how much they run with Allen in order to preserve his longevity, which I can certainly understand.

If they do cut down Allen's carries, that naturally opens up more running volume for the true RBs, so why can't Harris jump on that opportuninty?

At +5000, I've seen worse things to throw a cup of coffee on.

Dalton Kincaid to lead rookies in receiving yards (+2000 DK)

Found under "League Leaders — Rookies"
Leading up to the NFL Draft I started to really become enamored with Dalton Kincaid's potential, and was excited to see where he would land.

Now, a team devoid of a top tight end would have been a more exciting landing spot for the rookie, but with some troubling WR depth, there's a very real chance we see Kincaid take on more of an in-line slot type of role in Year 1.

Kincaid has been lauded as one of the draft's best pass-catchers, which includes WR, and the Bills made him their first-round investment. He's going to be used, and he'll be competing with Khalil Shakir and Trent Sherfield for targets after Allen's main weapons. There's a path here to significant work.
