NFL analyst calls for severe punishment for Packers' Quay Walker

Quay Walker made a mistake. Again. The very same mistake he had made earlier in the season. As everyone in the football world knows by now, the Green Bay Packers rookie linebacker was ejected from Sunday night’s 20-16 loss against the Detroit Lions. Once again, Walker shoved a staff member from his opponent’s team. In this case, it was an athletic trainer who was tending to an injured Lions player.

There is clearly no place for this kind of behavior in the NFL, let alone on the Packers team. Unfortunately, Walker has done this not once, but twice! It is clearly not a good situation, and he was rightfully ejected for his action. On NFL analyst, however, think the NFL should take it a step further.

A one-year suspension

Mark Tanier, who is a NFL analyst working for Football Outsiders and The New York Times, believes that simply ejecting and fining Quay Walker is not enough. Instead, he insists that the NFL suspend Walker for a year:

Quay Walker deserves a one-year suspension from the NFL.

He has exhibited a pattern of dangerous behavior that could lead to a bystander getting seriously injured during a game. That is absolutely unacceptable.

Quay Walker made an egregious error in judgment when he reacted the way he did, both times. As mentioned, there is no room for that kind of behavior in the NFL. Walker his almost certainly get a stiff fine, and perhaps even a suspension. A year, though? DeShaun Watson did not even get a full year suspension for what he did. I highly doubt Walker’s possible suspension reaches that length. He certainly deserves consequences for his action, but a one-year extension does not seem probable.
