NFC Team New Orleans Saints is linked to $70 million free agent and former Seattle Seahawk safety, Jamal Adams in a rumor that could be his next landing destination. The LSU product was one of the last members of the “Legion of Boom” era alongside Bobby Wagner. However, he had tremendous success with the New York Jets before being traded to Seattle after being one of the best safeties in the league. Wherever he lands now, he will find himself in a backup role until he can earn back a starting job.

The safety has been plagued with several injuries this past season, so it’ll take a while until he’s ready to go. Adams only played in 10 games in the last two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. However, if a team can use him to the best of his abilities then he still has a lot of has left in the tank. According to a report, Adams specializes in playing close to the line of scrimmage, instead of consistently putting him in deep coverage.

Saints’ Tyrann Mathieu could continue to be the primary deep threat to wide receivers of the opposite team. However, they do have Johnathan Abram, who performed well in Marcus Maye’s absence when he went down with injury. The thing is that Abram isn’t a solidified starter yet but would need someone like Adams to continue to mentor him. The Saints could sign Adams on a one-year budget contract until he can improve his production to land with a contender in 2025.

New Orleans could be the gateway to getting his career jumpstarted. It may take Adams being a backup until the team needs him for a starting role. It shouldn’t be long after this year’s draft that he finds a new team.

The Team Will Continue To Add Depth

The Saints were able to return both safeties which include re-signing Ugo Amadi to a one-year extension. It seems like the team wants to keep their guys but they should navigate this year’s draft before looking toward free agency. However, there’s still some talent available for the team to select for a quick low-cost veteran. It’s minimal but it’s something that the team can navigate through in case the new draftee isn’t ready for week one.

The Saints only have two options in free agency, Adams and former Denver Bronco, Justin Simmons. However, reports indicate that Simmons is leaning towards signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers this year. New Orleans only has a real shot at bringing the LSU product home to pair with Mathieu. It’s worth mentioning that the Saints may want to focus on the cornerback position instead of safety.

The Saints will want to avoid having their starting safety Maye getting injured again. New Orleans could get fancy and consider Former Dallas Cowboys, Stephon Gilmore. However, there are some rumors that he may have a homecoming reunion this upcoming season.

Other Possible Landing Spots for Adams

The Baltimore Ravens are probably one of the most complete teams in the league after having several pieces on offense and defense. The Ravens have Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams under contract but need someone with veteran experience. They could add Adams to make the secondary scarier to compete in the AFC. However, the Ravens lost their promising safety Geno Stone to rival Cincinnati Bengals in free agency this season.

So they need some competition in the Division and Adams could compete. One last destination that would make sense is landing with the Kansas City Chiefs. The LSU product may be in the position to be ring-chasing in his career. Kansas City trading their star secondary playmaker, L’Jarius Sneed shows they need some star power and Adams could be the answer.
