New York Jets Lose Key Player For The Year- Week 8
Kevin R. Wexler - The Record / USA TODAY NETWORK

New York Jets defensive tackle Al Woods will miss the rest of the 2023 season with an Achilles injury. Woods has been a vital part of the Jets defensive line and his absence will certainly affect the team. This news comes from the NFL injury report for week eight.

Al Woods Injury

Woods suffered an Achilles injury in the final minute of the first quarter against the New York Giants. He was helped off of the field by trainers and was carted off to the locker room shortly after. He was initially ruled as doubtful to return to the action and was later downgraded to out.

Head coach Robert Saleh reported the unfortunate news immediately following their 13-10 overtime win over the Giants. He said, “Al Woods tore his Achilles. He’s done.”

Career With the New York Jets

Woods has started almost every single game for the last two seasons. He came over to the Jets from the Seattle Seahawks this offseason on a one-year free-agent deal. Woods recorded six tackles and one sack through his first five games as a Jet. He has been a key component of New York’s defensive line rotation with Quinnen Williams, Solomon Thomas, and Quinton Jefferson.

Over his career, Woods has amounted to 299 tackles, 10 sacks, and two fumble recoveries. His absence will affect the Jets’ defensive rotation for the rest of the year. New York has a 4-4 record this season and a big reason for all of their wins is their stout defense. They will have a tough next three weeks as they play the Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, and the Buffalo Bills.
