New Raiders OC praises Bears QB Justin Fields

Many have been speculating that the Las Vegas Raiders could represent a potential destination for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields this offseason. Raiders' new offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, just added fuel to that fire.

Getsy, Fields’ offensive coordinator with the Bears the last two years, raved about his former QB during his introductory press conference on Friday.

“Like I said when I was there, he’s one of the best human beings I’ve ever got to work with,” Getsy said via Patrick Finley of The Chicago Sun-Times. “The mentality that he brought every day, the consistent approach, the kind of man that he is. It was a blessing to work with him. He was someone that just came to work every day to get better and better, and I think he’ll continue to do so.”

As much as Getsy praised Fields, there was a feeling that Fields wasn’t really a match for his style in Chicago, and some felt that he and the Bears’ coaching staff were holding Fields back.

On top of that, when the Raiders first hired Getsy, some ruled out Las Vegas as a trade suitor for Fields entirely because of his presence.

So, just because Getsy has some high praise for Fields does not necessarily mean the Raiders will suddenly jump at the opportunity to acquire him.

Fields made just 13 starts this past season due to a dislocated thumb he suffered in Week 6. During his time on the field in 2023, Fields threw for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 61.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 86.3. In addition, he rushed for 657 yards and four scores.

The 25-year-old, who played collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by Chicago with the 11th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

While he has certainly shown some flashes of brilliance, Justin Fields has mostly struggled throughout his first three seasons, going just 10-28 as a starter and totaling 40 passing touchdowns and 30 picks.
