NASCAR puts hold on Alvin Kamara partnership amid NFL suspension

On Friday, it was announced that the NFL was suspending Alvin Kamara. Now, NASCAR has made a decision on the controversial player. Kamara works with NASCAR in a fan engagement role. During his suspension, Kamara and the stock car organization will not have anything planned.

The NFL suspended Alvin Kamara for the first three games of the 2023 season. Kamara was suspended for his role in a fight that happened in Las Vegas in 2022. While the football player was charged with a felony, he took a plea deal just a month ago before the trial started.

After meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday, the decision came down to suspend Kamara. According to Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, NASCAR will not work with Kamara during this time.

The decision makes sense. Alvin Kamara isn’t at every NASCAR race and does limited appearances. However, laying down the line now and putting a pause on the partnership is for the best.

NASCAR has worked on improving fan engagement with a variety of partners. Kamara is not the only celebrity working with NASCAR on similar ventures at tracks and other events.

Alvin Kamara is a star for the New Orleans Saints. The running back provides a ton of productivity for the offense and will be missed during the beginning of the season on the football field.

Alvin Kamara released apology for Las Vegas incident

On top of taking a plea deal, Alvin Kamara also settled in a lawsuit with the victim. So, with 30 hours of community service and payment for medical expenses, Kamara will be playing in the NFL this season.

When the news came out, Kamara released a statement apologizing for his actions in Las Vegas.

“I never want to be involved in something where someone gets hurt or severely injured or anything,” Kamara told reporters at camp. He said it was “poor judgment on my end. Definitely a bad decision, but I’m a man. Everything I’ve ever done in my life I stood (up for). And I can take accountability for and I can say when I’m wrong.”

Kamara added: “I was completely wrong, embarrassed the Saints, embarrassed my family and my mother, embarrassed myself and embarrassed the city. And … obviously embarrassed the NFL.”

Maybe next season we will see Alvin Kamara and NASCAR work together again.
