Luke Getsy explains what made him take the job to be Raiders offensive coordinator in 2024

The Las Vegas Raiders took a while to do it, but they have found their offensive coordinator for the 2024 season and potentially even longer. The only way he isn't around longer is if he is so bad that he's fired, or he is so good that he is hired as a head coach. I don't see him leaving after one year, either way.

The Raiders have an offensive coordinator who loves running the ball but also knows that the run game needs to set up the deep ball for guys like Tre Tucker and even Davante Adams. He understands this offensive roster, including guys like Michael Mayer, is stacked with talent.

In his two years with the Chicago Bears, Getsy had their offense as one of the best, if not the best, rushing offense both years. If Josh Jacobs is back, and even if he isn't, that will be key for a team like the Raiders, and I'm sure the potential of Jacobs coming back is a reason he was interested. However, there must be other reasons that stood out to him the most.

"I grew up in Pittsburgh, so obviously growing up in the Steeler-Raider rivalry and all the cool stuff that's happened between these two organizations," Getsy said on Friday. "So, there's just always been a really cool respect that I've always had for the Raiders growing up, so that's the starting point, the why you ever would want to be in the Silver and Black. Something that's really important to me is the people. 

"Everywhere I've been, I've really tried to connect to everybody in the building, not just stick in that football side, and I love the flow of this new building and how you're able to do that. You're able to be a part of all the things because we're in this together, right? This isn't just about me, or one player, or anything; this is an entire organization going to win, and I just think it's really cool how they set this thing up to where we can all connect. And it was obvious as soon as I walked in the building how important this family atmosphere is, and so I was really drawn to it."

That's the Raiders' whole schtick. They are the franchise that is together than any other franchise in the NFL. They take the family meaning to a whole new level. The Raiders are one of the most respected franchises in all of North American professional sports, and it's because of that and how they treat their alumni.

So, it makes sense that that is what drew him in. The Raiders' new general manager, Tom Telesco, said the same thing. So, we are starting to see a trend that maybe could help the Raiders start to bring in more people, players, and staff to help the franchise.
