It went rather unceremoniously.

A few days after star Aaron Donald retired, the Los Angeles Rams brought back 26-year-old defensive tackle Larrell Murchison on a one-year deal.

However, with Donald riding into the sunset, Murchison has a chance to earn more snaps and contribute to a Rams defense that will need some life during the 2024 season.

Murchison at the time was an unrestricted free agent. Last season, he had 16 total tackles in his first full season with the Rams last year, while starting in three of the 15 games he played in.

Those numbers could increase.

It is easy to imagine a world where the Rams are forced to play Murchison more to make up for the lack of an imposing Donald eating up bodies on the front line.

The Rams claimed Murchison off waivers from the Titans at the end of the 2022 season and remained with the team in 2023, playing 252 total snaps last year. He can play all over:  inside as a defensive tackle or on the edge, but given the Rams’ holes on the interior, that’s likely where he’ll line up in 2024.

He may not become a star in one season, but Murchison will undoubtedly get a chance to prove himself come the 2024 season.
