NASHVILLE - Former Tennessee Titans star offensive tackle Taylor Lewan has never been one to care about sharing stories of behind-the-scenes happenings with his former team and teammates.
So when Lewan, his cohost, and fellow former Titan Will Compton, were joined by Kevin Byard recently on their ‘Bussin With The Boys’ podcast and shared the inside scoop on head coach Mike Vrabel’s first season with the team, no one was surprised.
“He sucked the first year,” Compton said during the podcast.
“Everybody hated Vrabes the first year; you could say it,” Lewan added. “He was so rough around the edges.”
Byard shared a story of Vrabel taking his frustrations out on Lewan following the first OTA practice, where Lewan, known to "talk" and show his strong personality on the field, went beyond what the rookie head coach was willing to accept.
“Murdered me,” Lewan said of Vrabel calling him out in the team meeting following the session.
Byard acknowledged that Vrabel no longer does the 'lowlights" segment on players; his head coach can still be a tough customer when need be, as we have seen recently in the most recent minicamp practice sessions.
Still, Vrabel has become what most players describe as a 'players coach' entering his fifth season as the Titans head man.
Vrabel and his team will return to St. Thomas Sports Park later this month when the rookies report on July 22, with the veterans set to join them on July 25 for the opening of training camp.
