Lawyer for Saints' Marshon Lattimore: Arrest was a 'misunderstanding'

New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore found his name in headlines after he was arrested in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday after it was alleged that the 24-year-old had a loaded handgun in his possession that may have been stolen property.

Via a statement shared by Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Marcus Sidoti, Lattimore's attorney, said that future information should clear his client's name.

"Mr. Lattimore, a proud Cleveland native with no prior criminal record or history, is fully cooperating with law enforcement’s investigation of this matter," Sidoti explained. "He was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police and was arrested without incident and was not formally charged. We believe that this was a misunderstanding and that this will become even clearer as new information becomes available and is shared with the authorities."

Lattimore is a three-time Pro Bowl defensive back who played his college ball with the Ohio State Buckeyes and still has strong ties to Northeast Ohio. The 2017 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year has repeatedly been linked with the Cleveland Browns in trade rumors

Lattimore is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
