Josh Jacobs' cryptic tweet encapsulates feelings on Raiders' Darren Waller trade

Raiders RB Josh Jacobs likely encapsulated how Las Vegas fans feel about the Darren Waller trade on Twitter, tweeting that things are "sad" right now. While we don't know that Jacobs was referring to the TE being traded, it nevertheless reflects what many are likely thinking.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Las Vegas traded the former Pro Bowl TE to the Giants for a third-round pick (No. 100 overall).

Although the Raiders received draft compensation, the move is nonsensical.

Waller was productive despite missing eight games with a hamstring injury last season, recording a career-high in yards per reception (13.9). Over the past four seasons, Waller accumulated 280 receptions and 17 receiving TDs.

The Raiders need a replacement, too. Las Vegas has not agreed to re-sign Waller's backup Foster Moreau, who had 54 receptions in 15 games. It could draft a tight end, but players like Waller are rare.

Also, the deal could potentially alienate other players.

Per The Athletic's Vic Tafur, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels recently said, "Waller will be a big part of what we're going to do going forward."

Well, that wasn't true, and it proves the regime, led by McDaniels and Las Vegas GM Dave Ziegler, wants a new, clean slate.

The Raiders might move more players. Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, WR Hunter Renfrow is the subject of trade speculation. After Las Vegas agreed to sign WR Jakobi Meyers on Tuesday, it raises more questions about Renfow's future.

Las Vegas must be careful, though. Significant roster change disrupts chemistry, which becomes more delicate in a tense locker room.

The Raiders could already have one because the coaching staff was the lowest-graded category on their NFLPA report card.

If these moves don't catapult the Raiders back into playoff contention, they're on a crash course with catastrophe.
