Jordan Love had revenge on the mind in win over Chiefs

Jordan Love's most recent game against the Kansas City Chiefs was a far cry from his very first start ever as an NFL quarterback — which was played at Arrowhead Stadium in November 2021.

In that game, Love looked like a young, overwhelmed quarterback. He completed just 19-of-34 passes against the Chiefs for 190 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a 13-7 loss that had many wondering if the Packers were foolish to trade up for Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

That sentiment is all but gone in 2023, though, especially coming off "Sunday Night Football's" matchup between the Packers and Chiefs that saw Love outduel two-time MVP and two-time Super Bowl Championship Patrick Mahomes.

In this contest, Love completed 25-of-36 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns with no picks. He was cool, calm, and collected — putting together a 90.3 quarterback rating compared to Mahomes' 53.7 (21-of-33 for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception).

After the game, the young Green Bay quarterback admitted that he's had this matchup on his mind for some time.

"It's huge. For me personally, obviously, I've had this game circled for a long time," Love said. "It was my first start (against the Chiefs in 2021), obviously, I didn't play how I wanted to the first game, so being able to see these guys again and get the victory is huge. This is a great team win tonight. Everybody just balled out, so it was an awesome win."

Just over a month ago, it seemed like Love wouldn't be the future for this Packers team. Green Bay was riding a four game losing skid and Love looked shaky, nervous and inaccurate.

Things have seemed to click for Love and Green Bay's young offense, though, and this win against the defending champs is yet another data point.

Speaking of data, Love has completed 115-of-174 passes in this five game stretch (in which the Packers have gone 4-1 with wins over the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions and AFC West-leading Chiefs) for 1,374 yards, 11 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Love also hasn't thrown an interception in three games.

Perhaps ... just perhaps ... Love can be the next great quarterback in Green Bay.
