Johnny Manziel returning to football league as player, coach

Johnny Manziel made a return to the gridiron last year when he took part in Fan Controlled Football’s inaugural season, and the former Heisman Trophy winner is sticking with it.

Manziel told TMZ this week that he will play in the Fan Controlled Football league again in 2022. He indicated he will be both a player and a coach.

“The FCF has given me an opportunity to coach some of this younger guys and chance to get around the business side, a chance to have ownership in a football league and still be around the game in some sort (of way),” Manziel said. “The FCF is something I don’t have to do as a full-time job and is different for me than it was in the past.”

Manziel admitted he doesn’t take the FCF as seriously as he once took his football career.

“It’s still fun. It’s not the same,” Manziel said. “I don’t think I have the same level of passion that I used to in the past.”

Manziel wasted no time making a big play (video here) in his FCF debut last year. The 29-year-old clearly doesn’t view the league as anything ultra-competitive, but it allows him to scratch his football itch. Some would argue that he didn’t take his NFL career seriously, either. At least now Manziel can get away with it.
